Description

Here is my best dso image to date of The Pelican Nebula taken at an extreme dark site at Heppner Oregon OHV Park on 091215 at 0600 UTC. The 850 miles round trip was well worth the effort and really payed off for my 1 week stay in a log cabin. The seeing, transparency and darkness all were a near perfect 10 out of 10 with Bortle 1-2 sky's.

I will be submitting this image to Astronomy Magazine and Sky & Telescope for a possible submission entry.

The Pelican Nebula is located in the constellation Cygnus 2,000 light years away. The dust clouds help define the Pelican's eye and long bill, while the bright front takes on the shape of its head and neck area.

The shadows of gas from young stars is causing the ionization to advance and expand outward.
